With spring break over, we have about a month left of classes, sports activities, fine arts performances, and other events before we’re finally free for the summer. For some, the weeks will crawl by as we slowly inch toward long awaited summer plans. For others, time flies as we try to absorb the last few moments of the school year. No matter which of these you relate to more, you’ve probably already considered your summer plans. Church camps, beach trips, lake days and…summer jobs?

Although summer can be a time to relax and distress from the rest of the year, high school students often use it as a time to gain a little extra pocket change. So what are some of these vacation time vocations? Many choose seasonal jobs that align with the time they have off from school such as lifeguarding or serving ice cream. Although lifeguarding requires some extra training, there are a variety of businesses who are more than willing to hire students for the summer. These include Greenville Rec, the Kroc Center, Goldfish Swim School, and Upstate Pool Management. If you’re looking for a sweeter job situation, options such as Dillard’s Ice Cream, Brusters, Clare’s Creamery, Good Karma, and the Creme Shack all offer summer jobs to student workers. Other popular student options come from the service industry in food vendors such as Culver’s, Farm House Tacos, Chick-fil-A, Panera Bread, Zaxby’s, Little Caesar’s, and Macdonald’s. Some of the more popular stores for student workers include Publix, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Target, and Kohl’s.

These lists are not exhaustive, but they do exclusively include businesses who are student-employee friendly with starting ages ranging from 14-17 years old. So as you finish out the last bit of this school year, consider adding one of these summer jobs to your list of summer plans.
