On this day in history, October 18, 1469, Ferdinand of Aragon married Isabella of Castile, meeting each other for the first time only four days before; they were 18 and 17 years of age. Some nobles complained about the marriage since Ferdinand and Isabella were second cousins, but luckily the couple was able to receive a forged note of approval from a dead pope. The young couple accomplished much during their reign, such as unifying Spain and sponsoring Columbus and should serve as inspiration that you’re never too young to achieve great things… well, except for marrying your second cousin.
