Service is one of the core values of our school and something our faculty and administration strongly encourage. Growth groups provide the perfect opportunity for students to get to know each other and learn about God. Service projects are always recommended to growth groups, but in case you don’t have any ideas for which service projects to choose, here are a few:
Shepherd’s Care is always a good outreach opportunity. Visiting the elderly as a group can be just as encouraging to you as it is to them. 1 Timothy 5:17 says “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor.” Another good service opportunity is volunteering at Miracle Hill. Each year Miracle Hill serves thousands of people and your growth group can be a part of that. Spread God’s love throughout the community by serving others in Miracle Hill’s Greenville Rescue Mission, Overcomers program for men, or the Miracle Hill food warehouse.
Other service opportunities can be found a little closer to home. Every year the University hosts a Bible Conference; the goal is to encourage and grow believers while raising money for a Christian organization. Any growth group can raise money through mini fundraisers for Bible Conference. Another opportunity at BJU is to serve in Living Gallery. Last year several academy students were able to participate by acting or doing voice overs. Hopefully this year many more students will participate.
There are many other organizations that would love to include students in their ministry. Piedmont Women’s Center, Operation Christmas Child, Lily Pad, and Iface just to name a few. All of these are great organizations with the goal of serving our local and global community. We also would love to encourage growth groups to get involved with a local church ministry. Greenville has so many opportunities to serve others, so I encourage you to talk with your growth group and get involved!
