The Sons of the American Revolution is a national society working to promote patriotism and the education of future generations. Each year, high schoolers from all over the country submit essays to the SAR organization and are rewarded for their effort, their knowledge, and their ability to display the patriotism and the history of their country through their work. Students in Mrs. Snyder’s US history class are encouraged to submit essays to the SAR’s George and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest; each essay explores an event, person, philosophy, or ideal pertaining to the American Revolution. This year, Shannah Lin’s essay, entitled “A Catalyst for Nationhood”, won first place at the chapter and state level. Her essay has been submitted for review on the national level. On April 4th, she attended the SAR Annual Awards Meeting and Banquet held in Camden, SC at the Revolutionary War Visitor’s Center to honor her first place achievement. While there, she was able to learn more about the SAR, DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), and CAR (Children of the American Revolution) organizations and hear about various members’ patriot ancestors. Shannah is honored to be able to represent Bob Jones Academy and the state of South Carolina in this regard.
