The Triangle would like to wish our Founder, Miss Edith Markham, a very blessed and happy 100th birthday!
In 1954 a group of students approached Miss Markham about starting a school newspaper. She agreed, and 72 years later the Triangle is still going strong! Thank you, Miss Markham, for giving BJA students an opportunity to use their creative skills and have a voice.
In honor of turning 100, we thought it would be interesting to see just what was going on back in 1924:
- Women received the right to vote in 1920.
- The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was first held in NYC.
- Calvin Coolidge was president.
- The first winter Olympics were held in France.
- Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin was the #1 song on the charts.
- Band-Aids are invented.
- A new car cost $265.
- Night schools for kids were common so that they could work during the day and go to school at night.
