In the bustling Quad of BJA, there is a hidden resident who scurries about, often unnoticed by the busy students and staff (specifically Dr. E) – a squirrel named GusGus. GusGus is a furry little creature who has made this school his home, finding shelter in the trees and the sheet roofing that surrounds the campus. GusGus starts his day out bright and early as he emerges from his cozy nest to begin his side-quest for food. He scampers across the school grounds, darting in and out of sight, as he hears kids say stuff like “skibidi,” “gyatt,” “Ohio,” and “rizz.”
GusGus is known for getting scared when hearing such nonsense from the freshman class, which leads him to steal their snacks or leftover crumbs during lunch. Throughout the day, GusGus can be seen darting from roof to roof, spying on the students who begin to talk about the lore at school. His fluffy tail twitches with excitement as he hears the wonderful conversations of what just happened to some students or teachers. Sometimes he will even jump on the roof just for fun, much to the surprise and amazement of the students underneath him, right before they realize they only have one minute till their next class (Vo-tech). As the school day comes to an end, GusGus retreats back to his nest, his belly full of food that he ate at school. Sometimes, if he’s lucky, he gets Huey Magoo’s or Chick-Fil-A. He curls up for a well-deserved nap, dreaming of the students that await him tomorrow.
While many may not give much thought to GusGus the squirrel, there’s something about the nostalgia of GusGus that adds to the bustling school events that the students are forced to go to. So next time you see GusGus darting past above the covered walkways, remember you’re not the only one who has to survive outside of Bob Jones.
